DUBLIN, IRELAND, and GREAT FALLS, USA, 6 May 2025 – Future Energy Global (FEG) and Montana Renewables, LLC (MRL) have agreed framework terms for a multi-year offtake agreement for the environmental attributes of 15 million gallons of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), with deliveries planned to begin later in 2025. These SAF Scope 1 and Scope 3 attributes will enable airlines and other companies all over the world to reduce their CO2 emissions using a Book and Claim structure.
SAF plays a major role in the aviation industry’s target of reducing its CO2 emissions to net zero by 2050, and to achieve this goal, SAF production and use needs to scale up greatly. However, this scaling is hampered by the continuing limited availability of SAF at airports worldwide.
The Book and Claim system, already well established in other energy markets such as renewable electricity, solves this problem by enabling the environmental attributes of the fuel to be traded separately from the underlying fuel. Separating the Scope 1 and Scope 3 attributes from the physical fuel reduces the costs and carbon emissions associated with fuel transportation and storage, and unlocks a global SAF market not only for airlines but also for corporate airline customers around the world who want to mitigate their travel emissions.
Future Energy Global is a specialist in SAF Book and Claim, allowing airlines to buy additional SAF even if the physical fuel is not available at their own airports, and enabling corporates to purchase and retire SAF-derived Scope 3 credits, not only compensating for their business travel emissions, but also mitigating the added cost of SAF and driving the faster scale-up of SAF production. These credits are publicly registered on one of the recognised SAF registries to enable robust tracking and to ensure that emissions reductions are counted only once.
“Montana Renewables was the largest western SAF producer in 2024, with a proven track record of driving aviation emissions reduction today,” says Natasha Mann, CEO and Co-Founder of FEG. “By leveraging MRL’s production capability with Future Energy Global’s Book and Claim know-how, we’ll be able to offer the environmental benefits of this fuel to airlines and corporate customers worldwide, unlocking more demand and helping the industry to reduce its emissions faster.”
